Welcome!

Hello!  My name is Erin McFarland, and I’m so glad you’re here.  I’d like to welcome you, and invite you to join me as I learn to incorporate Catholic traditions and music into my personal and family life.

I am a married Catholic, and a homeschooling mother of five. I’m also a musician who sings and plays piano, organ, and guitar. When the mood strikes, I compose my own music.

I started this site to help children and adults learn how to sing familiar and not-so-familiar Catholic songs. Even if you have no musical background, I hope you will still be able to learn the songs by listening to the simple recordings I’ve made. There is a growing collection of Catholic songs for you to learn under Hymns & Songs. I warmly invite you to learn a few! I will be adding new songs as time permits.

For more information on how to learn the hymns on this site, please read: How to Use this Site.

If you were wondering why this site is called “Traditional” Catholic Living, it is because there is so much “tradition” in the Catholic Church to discover and appreciate!  I like taking the practical ideas and customs of previous generations, and updating them with current resources, information and technology (when appropriate) to be as simple, efficient, and spiritually fruitful as possible. Just because something is called “traditional” doesn’t necessarily mean it is “outdated” or “irrelevant”.

Over time, our family’s unique traditions, which have been personalized to suit our taste and personalities, will be passed on to the next generation.

One tradition that is important in our family is singing Catholic music together. (Now, please don’t picture us all singing together by the piano with angelic voices. About 90% of the time, singing together means I am singing while doing chores, and one or more of my children will join me.) I just love hearing our two-year-old sing Tis the Month of Our Mother while he plays with his trains.

My personal love of hearing children sing Catholic hymns is what inspired me to make this site. I want the focus of this site to be about helping others blend sacred music into their daily family lives.

Do you have a favorite resource, hymn, or tradition? Please share it with everyone by leaving a comment, or better yet, visit me on Facebook! I’d love to hear from you!

May God bless you and keep you close to Him!
